So I'm Supposed to be a Grown Up Now?

It's been awhile since my last post. I have a bunch of things that I want to blog about, but I'm going to write about what's going on with us now so I don't fall further behind!  This post is all about how my life has changed and will be changing in the near future...growing up is exciting, but EXTREMELY scary! Brace yourself as this post is a bit lengthy...

Education
I officially finished my Bachelor's Degree in December. I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and Statistics Education. Utah State has become too cheap to do two separate commencement ceremonies so I had to wait until May to officially do the whole graduation ceremony.  Either way, I'm officially a college graduate!  It's pretty exciting and a little surreal.  The best part is probably when Zach has a ton of homework and I'm like wow, I'm done.  Ha ha.
That is one pricey piece of paper!

Career
Because I graduated in December, the prospects of finding a teaching job mid-year were pretty bleak.  Honestly I didn't try very hard because I was a little concerned about coming into a classroom in the middle of the school year.  I did find a part-time teacher's aide job at Sky View High School in Smithfield.  I've been working in and English Special Education classroom.  This has been really good to give me more practice with kids, especially special needs kids.  Around March I started looking for a full time teaching job for next school year.  I had a few interviews that went nowhere.  That was pretty discouraging, but I wasn't going to give up because I really wanted to teach next year.  The good thing was that most of the interviews were for schools that I wasn't all that interested in teaching at next year. I finally found a job teaching math at Preston Jr. High.  I am really excited and probably even more nervous!  I've heard that the first year of teaching is the worst year of a teacher's life.  Ha ha.  Hopefully whoever told me that was a little melodramatic. :)  When I tell people that I want to teach middle school, they tell me I'm crazy but as long as you remember they are 12ish years old, you can have a ton of fun with them!

Parenthood
In February we found out that we are expecting our first baby in October, Halloween to be exact! How cool is that? I don't think we could have planned that better if we'd tried!  At first I was pretty much just in shock. After the shock wore off I was ecstatic because I've been wanting a baby for a while now.  We are both really happy and really nervous! I'm a worrier, so every symptom or change I immediately look it up to see if it's normal.  Ha ha thank Heavens for Google!  I've been feeling pretty well considering there's a little person growing inside me.  I've had a little nausea and lots of aches and pains, but it's totally gonna be worth it!

Baby at 10 weeks

We've been doing a picture every week....yeah that's not happening with any other pregnancy! It'll be cute though.

Buying a House
We've been renting for the last three years and we're pretty much just ready to have our own house that we can do whatever we want to.  Like my visiting teacher said, "If you buy a house you can paint your walls whatever color you want!"  Ha ha.  So we've been toying with the possibility of buying a house for a while now and Zach's been watching the real estate webpages for every second of it.  We found a really good deal on a house in Preston so we decided to go walk through it.  We absolutely fell in love with that house!  It has five bedrooms so it is definitely big enough for us to raise our little family.  We are currently in the process of buying it. As long as everything goes according to plan, we should be living in it sometime in June!  Yah!  We are super excited!

So basically, I feel like I'm officially grown up...What a scary thought!  Zach and I feel really blessed for all of the changes that have taken and will take place.  I normally hate change, but I'm really excited for all of these changes.  Yes, I know next year is going to be crazy and I'm not going to have time to do frivolous things like write blog posts (ha ha) but I'm really excited and I know it's going to be worth it.  Here's to growing up and making big life steps!
